Thank You

This past week was a wild and crazy week with the Skyline Cup and the rain on Thursday. First, thank you for all your donations, raffle basket items, volunteering, etc. for the Skyline Cup. We are still in the process of calculating the total amount raised, but as of now, we raised the highest amount ever for the Cup! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Water Street Ministries was also blown away by the number of donations! My favorite part of the night was looking across the pool at the wall of people cheering during the Mamas/Papas/Alumni races. Then on Thursday, we endured our first (and hopefully only!) storm delay of the season. A huge thank you goes to all the people who helped set up the pool and tear down in record time. We were able to start the meet relatively on time and many hands made tear-down go quicker as well.

Dual Meets –at Lampeter-Strasburg – Tuesday, July 13

We have our first away meet on Tuesday at the Lampeter-Strasburg pool. The address is 800 Village Rd, Lancaster, PA 17602. Arrival time is 5:15, Warm-ups are 5:30-6, Meet Start Time is 6:15. Parents need to bring chairs. Swimmers sit on the grass behind the slide. Last I heard they have been having food trucks there as their concessions, but I do not know if they will for our meet and if so what they are offering. Volunteer Needs: Timers - 3 for 1st half, 7 for 2nd half, Scoring – 1 for each half, Finish Judge – 1 for each half, Stroke and Turn Judge – 2 for 1st half, 1 for 2nd half

Dual Meet – at Home - Senior Night – Overlook – Thursday, July 15

We will recognize our seniors in the middle of the meet. There are currently 53 volunteer positions open! Our final concession donations are open as well.

During the Meet Reminders

  • Remain on the Skyline side unless using the bathroom or visiting concessions briefly
  • Conserve energy and stay warm – No running around – NO ONE SHOULD BE ON THE PLAYGROUND
  • Report to the staging area when called
  • Be responsible – be ready to report to the staging area in plenty of time for your event. This means making sure that your swimmer has used the bathroom with plenty of time before their next event.
  • Wait for all swimmers in heat to finish before exiting the pool. Shake hands with lanes next to you.

Save a Life (Swim for Cancer) – July 16

The annual Save a Life (Swim for Cancer) will be July 16 during regular swim practice times. Sponsor forms were placed in mailboxes this past week. This is a fun practice as we ask the kids to swim as many laps as they can without stopping. They can use flippers and kickboards too! Snacks will be provided. We hope you will join us for a great cause and a great time! This event is taking the place of Fun Friday so if your swimmer is not participating they do not need to come to the pool that day.

Manheim Fast and Furious – Saturday, July 17

The 18th Annual Fast and Furious Invitational is Saturday, July 17. Swimmers 11 years and older will be in the morning session while 10 and under will be in the afternoon. Sign-up for this meet is now closed. Please remember that the team pays for each event your child is entered to swim and you are expected to honor your commitment or pay the team the fees. Admission is $3 per person (over the age of 12) and heat sheets are $4. Please refer to the previous email and/or the News section of the website for information about parking, etc.

Divisionals – Adamstown – Saturday, July 24

Any swimmer may swim in this meet. There are NO qualifying times. It is kind of like our "Team Championship" meet. If you had not realized your swimmer could participate, please take a moment and choose your availability- either yes or no- by Friday, July 16.

The 11/12,13/14, and 15 and over age groups swim in the morning, while 9/10 and 8 & under swim in the afternoon. We currently need 4 timers in the afternoon. Here is the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090449acac2aa64-pm

All League Championships (July 30 and 31) – Ephrata Community Pool

This meet is the final meet of the season and does have qualifying times for the individual session which is held Saturday, July 31 in the morning. It usually ends by 1 PM THE RELAY PORTION ON FRIDAY EVENING DOES NOT HAVE QUALIFYING TIMES. We are allowed to enter up to 2 relays in each age group and they have both a free relay and a medley relay. So if your swimmer(s) are available to swim Friday night for relays and want to be part of this final meet, please mark your swimmer as available for the relay session on Swimtopia. Coach Barb will choose from the available swimmers the two best relays (If we have at least 8 swimmers available) to enter into the relay portion of the meet. The swimmers DO NOT have to "have" the individual qualifying times to participate in the relays Friday evening. Any questions, please contact Coach Barb

End of Year Banquet – Eden Resort – Sunday, July 25

As stated in a previous email, the Skyline Banquet is Sunday, July 25 at the Eden Resort. Flyers were placed in mailboxes this past week. Unfortunately due to some technical difficulties, we will NOT be able to take online RSVPs with a credit card. If you plan to attend, all papers, along with a check for payment need to be placed in the Speizer mailbox by Monday, July 19. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jill Speizer at [email protected]

Future Needs

As the swim season will start wrapping up soon, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that we have 2 very important needs for next year on our Skyline Parent Board – Concessions Coordinator and Treasurer. Our concessions are an important part of fundraising for our team. Last week’s Sunday Scoop had an attachment explaining a little bit about the position. Thursday night will be the final time to shadow our current concessions coordinator. If we are unable to fill this position for next year, we could very well have to increase the registration or fundraising efforts next year and would not have concessions available at our meets.

Thanks for reading through everything. I know it is a lot every week – but there is also a lot of things to cover in such a short swim season. Have a great week and as always, please feel free to ask any questions.
