First Year Swimmer Note from Coach Barb

Hello, Swimmers!

There are a few things that Coach Barb wanted to communicate with all new swimmers:

1.  She would like to remind all new swimmers about the importance of attending at least one of the indoor practices so the coaches can watch them swim a 25/50 meter of both free and backstroke (breaststroke and fly, if they are interested).

2. Swimmers who are 5-10 years old will do a 25 meter swim and 11 and older will show coaches a 25 or 50 meter swim.  This is important that coaches make sure that they are safe and not fearful of deep water.  Coaches don't want to see crying, and hope to see smiles and excitement, although they recognize there may be some nervousness, and maybe even anxiousness.  Coaches will work on diving with those swimmers who have never dived before, with a progression of sitting dives, kneeling, stride, and finally standing dives.

3.  Finally, a reminder that caps for long hair and competitive swimming goggles (Speedo, TYR, Sporti, and Arena) will be needed.  A good place online to get goggles is at swimoutlet.com under the competitive swimming tab (not recreation).  This link should take you right to the competitive swimming items.  Coach Barb saw Sporti goggles for under $12.

Looking forward to meeting you at the new swimmer meeting during the first week of practice (see email that was sent last week).

Have a great week, and Happy Mother's Day!

Cathy & Coach Barb
